You won’t Lose your Job to AI

You may lose your job, but it won't be to AI It will be to someone who knows and understands AI

I recently re-read the book "What Got You Here Won't Get You There" by Marshall Goldsmith, and it has a phrase which really resonated with me: “The higher you go, the more your problems are behavioral.”

My interpretation of this is that people skills, EQ, and your behaviour towards certain situations like new technology and new ways of working, are much more important than your technical skills as you go further up the proverbial "corporate ladder". Your attitude towards a once-in-a-lifetime, seismic shift (like AI) is an example of this behaviour.

Most people who are struggling with AI aren’t held back by their skills, they’re held back by their behaviours and mindset. They are unwilling to acknowledge that times are changing, and what got them here won’t get them to the next level.

👉 They’re clinging to old habits.
👉 They’re resisting change.
👉 They’re using the same playbook that worked 5 years ago, hoping it still applies today.

So yes, AI won’t take your job. But someone who understands AI will. If you're not ready to be replaced by AI, not only do you have to KNOW IT, you also have to LOVE IT, to EMBRACE IT and to REVEL IN IT.

So, what behaviours are you observing within your organisation that is resisting change?
